Biography
Dr. Walton is a Professor and Associate Chair for Research and Research Faculty Development in the UM Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Walton also serves as the Senior Associate Director of the UM Injury Prevention Center (IPC), Associate Director for Child Research at the Addiction Center, and Co-Director of the Research & Scholarship Core at the Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention. She has broad expertise in harnessing technology for intervention delivery, including mobile health research using innovative designs (e.g., micro-randomized trials, Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trials). For example, Drs. Walton, Cunningham, Zimmerman, and colleagues demonstrated the efficacy of a single session (SafERteens) in reducing youth violence, and she is part of ongoing work (lead by Dr. Carter) integrating this intervention (augmented with text messages) into routine clinical care. In addition, Dr. Walton and colleagues are testing digital interventions focused on preventing misuse of substances (e.g., alcohol, cannabis, opioids) among adolescents and young adults.
